Position Overview

The role of a Senior Controls Engineer will be to take industrial automation projects from an initial kick-off meeting to working completion through all of the stages of design & configuration, also when requested, be able to support existing customers by working alongside the service team, and occasionally support the shop builders & sales with electrical questions.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with other junior engineers & sales with a goal of achieving a high-quality product for the customers according to the sales writeup.
Build electrical schematics using AutoCAD Electrical to UL508A and UL698 standards
Specify components correctly for their application – rating, size, functionality, etc.
Put together bill of materials and work with purchasing to get items ordered & in on time
Collaborate as needed with purchasing, inventory & shipping on electrical components
Arrange components for back panel layouts with information necessary for panel builders
Support panel builders by answering questions & providing drawing updates
Inspect enclosures to ensure they are correctly built to schematics & specifications
Be able to troubleshoot wiring (point-to-point, voltage & current) utilizing a multimeter
If needed, make small panel corrections independently & cleanly while ensuring proper wire routing, stripping, ferrules, shrink labeling, and termination
Provide an up to date drawing package inside the electrical enclosure before they leave
Design & program safety systems to meet the safety level required for the project
Program machine functionality typically with Allen Bradley Compact Logix PLC’s
Program human-machine interfaces (HMI) typically with Allen Bradley FactroryTalk ME
Document & organize programs with consideration for other programmers to understand
Support shop training on printing labels for wires, cables, terminal blocks & devices
Assist machine builders with on machine wiring as needed
Support sales with applicable electrical engineering information
Maintain departmental standards and documentation

 

Requirements

Bachelors Degree in Electiracl Engineering
Have a multimeter, wire strippers & screw drivers
Detailed knowledge of industrial control panel design and UL508A / NFPA 70 (NEC)
Familiar with UL698 or willingness to become familiar
Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical to create electrical schematics and panel layouts
Proficiency in PLC programming (“ladder logic”)
Aptitude in HMI programming with a mentality to provide user friendly interfaces
Support customers when needed by collaborating with the service department team
Rare travel maybe required (typically less than 5%)
Must provide high quality design and have an attention to detail
Time management skills and ability to meet deadlines
Proven communication, organizational, interpersonal and problem-solving skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, and Excel).
US. Citizen or have legal right to work in the USA without sponsorship
Pass a criminal background check and drug test (If required)
Occasional work which may include extended working hours

Hours: 40hrs+
Core Working hours: Mon-Friday 8-4:30 (non-negotiable for safety reasons)
Core Over Time Hours as needed: Mon-Friday 4:30 to 5:30pm – Saturday 8am to 12pm
Travel Overtime Hours: Undefined
Pay: $85,000 – $120,000
